I am Keeta Williams, a freelance journalist and photojournalist
Biography
I am a freelance journalist, writer and photojournalist living on South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula. I have written for prominent publications, including The Guardian, The Sydney Morning Herald, SBS and news.com.au.
My background as an early childhood teacher has allowed me to write for industry publications, including Early Childhood Australia's The Spoke and Community Early Learning Australia's Rattler Magazine.
I am currently the digital producer of an online planning and programming tool for Australian early childhood educators. The Interest Forest provides a large collection of learning experiences based on children's interests.
I have strong digital capabilities and have been writing, designing and hand coding for the web since the mid 1990s. I am experienced with SEO.
As a photographer, I specialise in photojournalism and documentary projects. I also complete personal projects as a photographic artist.
Career history
My career started in radio, as an announcer and producer for Triple J and Australian Broadcasting Corporation. I studied at Australian Film, Television and Radio School, made guest appearances on radio in Holland and New Zealand, and hosted internet radio programs in the USA (many years before podcasts became a thing).
I worked as a freelance music journalist for magazines and digital publications, and as a copywriter for Australian record labels. And after a decade in radio and music, I entered a completely new field - early childhood education.
I trained as a teacher, became a children's service director, and later a trainer and assessor. I was involved in policy development, internal communications, and technical writing for health and safety documentation. I worked with highly respected and progressive organisations, including KU Children's Services, SDN Children's Services, local governments and Gowrie Australia.
Simultaneously, I maintained my work in freelance writing. My clients were small businesses, SEO agencies and publications.
Teaching and writing allowed me to live the digital nomad lifestyle, working and travelling across Australia, Asia and Russia. While on the road I returned to university, studying internet communications and fine arts through Curtin University. I then studied photography through private tuition.
Recently, I have started a family and settled on South Australia's quiet and pristine Fleuriau Peninsula. I work from home as a freelance journalist, writer and photojournalist. I am currently unavailable for new freelance assignments.
